LOS ANGELES: Writing & performance

Class Type Weekly
Dates  May 5th, 2019 thru June 9th, 2019
Times 3pm-6pm, Sundays only
Location Live Arts LA, Eagle Rock
Instructor Tim Reid
Cost $299 (discounts for previous Clown School participants)

Though it’s often claimed that clowns don’t speak, we know it’s quite the opposite: it’s impossible to shut them up. To make them stop, Shakespeare even had Hamlet say: “Let those that play your clowns speak no more than is set down for them.” Through writing and performance, this class explores the reasons why.

How does writing lead to performance, and how through writing do we learn what it means to bring our selves on stage? This class will offer a number of strategies that use the urgency of performance to generate text. It will be lyrical, personal, and use image and metaphor to propel us into humor, disclosure and play. We are interested in the permeability we find on stage when it’s just us and our voice.

Ages 18 and older.

Prerequisite: None. All experience levels welcome!

It’s a perfect playground for actors, clowns, and improvisors alike.
