Got a story only you can tell? Over four Sundays, build the foundations of your solo show. Whether you’re dreaming of Edinburgh Fringe, venues closer to home, or a show that finds its life well beyond them, this is where it starts.

We’ll explore what makes a one-person piece work: how to find the story worth telling, how to play many voices (or one very layered one) without losing the thread, and how to shape a piece so it holds an audience. Each session blends creative exercises and timed writing prompts designed to get you onto the page without overthinking, plus scene analysis and supportive feedback to help you find your voice and your form.

You’ll leave with the beginnings of your own script, a clear sense of your show’s structure, and the confidence to keep writing long after the final session. Perfect for actors, clowns, storytellers, and anyone curious about making original work. No previous writing experience necessary, just bring a notebook and a willingness to play.

Jess is a Welsh-Egyptian actor, movement artist, and playwright from the UK who has been writing and developing original work professionally for over six years. They hold a BA and MA in English with a focus on playwriting and dramaturgy. Jess is also a qualified adult education teacher and specializes in teaching creative writing in a supportive environment. They recently taught The Clown School's Playwriting 1 series.
